Talk about a planned light-rail system along Woodward Avenue dominated a Sept. 30 symposium at UDM on designing a sustainable Detroit.More than one hundred students, faculty and community members attended the event, which was sponsored by the schools of architecture and engineering and science and featured three speakers with innovative ideas on how to help Detroit thrive.

Division I schools were in a frenzy over the summer to settle who would stay or go in their respective conferences. But, the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association stayed under the radar and voted to add four schools to the 12-member conference.
