Campus mourns loss of student who took his life

Leo King, a 20-year-old junior safety management major, was found dead early Wednesday morning of an apparent suicide in his home on Kelly Boulevard in Slippery Rock.According to the public information release report from the Pennsylvania State Police, the cause of death was asphyxiation.

State trims Bartram budget

Bartram Forests educational programs will be halted due to state budget cuts, which are projected to total over 10 percent through 2012, according to the Georgia Forestry Commission. This would leave GFC 50 percent fewer dollars than a decade ago.There has been talk of leaving the property open to the public and having the district office of the GFC help maintain it.

Charlotte Bobcats Take Over Trask Coliseum

For the fourth time in franchise history, the Charlotte Bobcats are holding summer training camp on the campus of UNC-Wilmington. The team began practice Tuesday morning and will continue until Sunday evening with a concluding intrasquad scrimmage open to the public.

New disc golf course on campus open to the public

A nine-hole disc golf course on SRUs campus opened to the public for the Fall 2010 semester and is scheduled to become an 18-hole course by January.The course expands from Building F, winds around the ARC and ends up behind the rugby field.

Pep band to return for basketball

During breaks in the action at the Vadalabene Center, Cougar fans have become accustomed to music on the public address system, coming from artists like Drake, Bon Jovi and Rascal Flatts. The music offering and environment in the gym is set to change next basketball season, because music professor Dan Smithinger is charged with the task of establishing the latest incarnation of SIUEs pep band.
