Under Governor Tom Corbetts proposed 2011-12 budget, which slashes state funding to public universities by 51.4 percent, Slippery Rock University would face a deficit of $22 million. “Sort of makes our $8.9 million issue of last year seem reasonable, almost desirable,” SRU President Robert Smith said at the budget information meetings held Tuesday and Thursday, which over 700 staff, faculty and students attended.

For a second time in less than a year, a complaint has been filed against Student Government Association Vice President Andrew Holcomb, and in both instances members of SGA filed the complaints. Executive cabinet members Matt White and Elijah House filed the most recent complaint on March 3.

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Prescott Campus has recently purchased two Cessna Skycatcher 162s for use by the ERAU Golden Eagles Flight Team. In part of a newly signed contract with Cessna, one of the leading manufacturers of training aircraft, ERAU President John Johnson and other upper-level ERAU leaders have agreed to furnish both the Daytona Beach campus and Prescott campus with two new Skycatcher 162s for each campus.

Two senators in the Student Government Association were asked to resign last week after comments they made, published in an article in The Eastern Progress, were deemed insensitive to the university and SGA.The two students – sophomore Student Rights Chair Cari Tretina and freshman senator Danielle Holston – were both confronted in a meeting last Thursday by SGAs Vice President Andrew Holcomb, who asked them to resign.

Students at the SGA meeting on Thursday got a better look at what to expect from the renovations of Weisenfluh Dining Hall.The Slippery Rock University dining services team, led by Deb Pincek, the Assistant to the Vice President of Student Life, and Jeff MacTaggart, the Resident Director of Dining Services, both spoke at the meeting and gave details on what the finished products will include.

An email from President Jill Beck informed the student body Friday, Feb. 4 that Professor of Art History Michael Orr had been appointed as Provost and Dean of the Faculty at Lake Forest College.For Orr, this appointment follows over 20 years of teaching, administrative involvement and scholarship at Lawrence University.
