New edition of Twain classic censors slurs

NewSouth Books of Montgomery, Ala. have decided to print an edited version of Mark Twains “Huckleberry Finn.” The new version will omit words that might be deemed as racially offensive to African-Americans and Native Americans.Specifically, “Huckleberry Finn” and “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer” will be released in a single volume that omits the “nigger” and replaces it with the word “slave.

Students who found themselves not frozen under a rock last Thursday may have noticed the sudden bout of inclement weather that struck the area, leaving roads slick and, by that evening, the campus closed for the following day.Living in the South, many students may be unaccustomed to traveling in the type of conditions that UTMs student body attempted to brave last week.

The newly elected University of Tennessee system President, Joe DiPietro, made his first visit to UTM under the new title on Thursday, October 28.After the Board of Trustees selected DiPietro on Oct. 22 he, along with interim president, Jan Simek, made rounds to the five major UT campuses to meet and greet faculty and administration, with Watkins Auditorium second on the two day trip.

All Kenneth Hollis and Galvyn Hill want is for people to know them before they judge them.Hill, a junior Spanish major, and Hollis, a freshman Pre-Med Biology major, are homosexual males.

Homecoming events wrapped up Sunday leaving a new set of winners with bragging rights good for a whole year.The popular rope pull competition ended with the brothers of Phi Sigma Kappa winning the championship on Friday afternoon, defeating longtime champions Alpha Gamma Rho in the first round on Monday.
