Five years after Dodgers owner Branch Rickey made Jackie Robinson the first black player in Major League Baseball, Brown made Duquesne guard/forward Chuck Cooper the first black player taken in the NBA Draft on April 25, 1950.

Though the rivalry of the U.S. and Ghana seems a mere scuffle when compared to the outright warfare between the historic enemies of the Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Lakers, the Americans second loss in two consecutive World Cup tournaments to the Black Stars was yet another lost battle.
