Future of yearbook in question

For 77 years, Easterns yearbook, the Milestone, was published yearly without fail, save for 1944 in the wake of World War II. In 1999, The Milestone went on a nine-year hiatus until the Department of Communication brought it back in fall 2007.Now the Milestone has come to a critical point in its existence where its fate is in question because of funding concerns.

Three days after hundreds of protestors flooded Kilcawley Center in protest of Senate Bill 5, Youngstown State Universitys campus rock became a center for the political battle, perpetuated by students. Labeled by Democrats as a union buster and by Republicans as a fiscal necessity, the collective bargaining issue dripped paint from both sides, splitting YSUs famous rock along a political fissure.

Health Services expertise is being called into question by a handful of students.Senior biology major Alexandra Clark of Chicago went to Health Services in late January complaining of pain in her esophagus that made her unable to swallow liquids. Clark said she thought Health Services seemed to brush her case off.

YSU students help clean up Wick Park

Residents of the Wick Park neighborhood woke up Saturday morning after two days of heavy snowfall to completely white, impassable sidewalks.By Saturday afternoon, 60 volunteers armed with nothing but shovels and a will to fight back against the winters wrath cleared a path along the Elm Street sidewalks so churchgoers would not have to worry Sunday morning.

School of education’s graduate program fails evaluation

When students receive bad grades, professors often say they are the ones to be blamed by the students. But when the student gets a good grade, they take full credit. When the tables turned and it came time for DePauls school of education to be graded, the faculty cooperated– that is until their undergraduate elementary program received a C and their graduate program earned an F.

Timery Jackson describers herself as timid so she was shocked when she won the 40th Miss Black EIU scholarship pageant.”Words cant even explain how I feel right now,” Jackson said.This year, the pageant was titled “40 Silhouettes of Beauty.”The pageant took place Saturday in the Grand Ballroom of the Martin Luther King Jr.

Harry Potter enchants fans

Spoiler alert: most Harry Potter fans only dress up for the midnight premieres of the movies. After that, the best costume is to simply wear a red and gold scarf. Meghan Garby, a freshman special education and elementary education major, brought her own wand to the University Boards showing of the most recent movie, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1,” Friday and Saturday in the Buzzard Hall auditorium.
